In a significant step towards improving the management and oversight of education funding in Liberia, the Institute for Democratic Action and Development (IDAD) recently conducted a comprehensive education budget monitoring training for key education stakeholders in Monrovia. The training, held over the past week, aimed to equip participants with essential tools and knowledge for effective monitoring and advocacy around education budget allocations and spending.
This initiative comes in response to the increasing need for transparency and accountability in the education sector, where efficient use of funds is critical to improving educational outcomes across the country. Attendees included representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, school administrators, and community leaders who play a pivotal role in ensuring that education funding is utilized to benefit students at all levels.

During the training, participants engaged in interactive sessions covering budget analysis, tracking government expenditures, and advocating for better education financing policies. IDAD facilitators provided real-world case studies and best practices on how stakeholders can collaborate to hold decision-makers accountable and ensure that education budgets align with the needs of Liberia’s youth.

The program also focused on building the capacity of local communities to participate in education budget oversight, promoting a culture of transparency that fosters stronger public trust in how funds are allocated and spent. This training is part of IDAD’s broader efforts to enhance governance and public accountability in Liberia’s education system.

As the nation strives to improve the quality of education, initiatives like these are essential in addressing funding gaps, reducing inefficiencies, and ensuring that every dollar allocated to education makes a tangible difference in the lives of students.
