The Institute for Democratic Action & Development (IDAD) convened a national-level inception meeting at the Corina Hotel in Monrovia, bringing together a broad range of stakeholders to examine key legislation central to Liberia's decentralization agenda. Representatives from the National Legislature, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Law Reform Commission, the Liberia Revenue Authority, civil society organizations, development partners, and diplomatic missions gathered to deliberate on the 2018 Local Government Act, the Revenue Sharing Act of 2021, and the National Reconciliation Plan. Discussions at the meeting surfaced critical challenges hindering the implementation of these laws, including inadequate infrastructure, limited local capacity, and the need for stronger political will. Stakeholders called for a multidimensional approach — one that brings together policymakers, legal practitioners, and communities — to ensure the decentralization process delivers meaningful results for Liberians. The meeting forms part of a UNDP-funded project that will be rolled out across seven counties, including Lofa, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Maryland, Grand Kru, and Sinoe.
