The Institute for Democratic Action & Development (IDAD) has held two public-level discussions with relevant education stakeholders, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs,) Community-Based Organizations CBOs), Local Authorities, and citizens on the implementation of key legislation to include, the 2018 Local Government Act, the 2010 Freedom of Information Act, the 2081 Land Rights Act, and the 2011 Education Reform Act.
The first public-level discussion took place at the Zoe Lodge, Ganta City, Nimba County on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, while the second discussion was held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Corina Hotel in Sinkor in Monrovia. These unique discussions brought together a total of (60) sixty Stakeholders from the Ministry of Education, Monrovia Consolidated School System, Ministry of Internal Affairs, District Education Offices, National County School Board, Civil Society Organizations, and the private sector both in Montserrado and Nimba Counties.
The objectives of the public-level discussions were to broaden citizensβ and stakeholdersβ knowledge of the key legislation that require legal assistance for implementation and service delivery in support of the education sector and to further engage with private-sector legal practitioners and national decision-makers for policy reform, implementation, and service delivery through multi-stakeholders’ coalition that feedback loops among government, CSOs, CBOs, and citizens.Β
The presentation on the key issues from the legislation and policies was made by Mr. Joseph Cheayan, the Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Action & Development (IDAD).
During the presentation, Mr. Cheayan underscored the need for reforms and policy implementation relative to the gaps and challenges in the various legislations.Β
