LEMCOL Holds Strategic Partnership Meeting with Legislature to advance transparency and accountability

With funding support from the European Union through the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), the Legislative Monitoring Coalition of Liberia (LEMCOL), convened a high-level Partnership Meeting with members of the Liberian Legislature and development partners at the Boulevard Palace Hotel in Monrovia, aimed at strengthening partnership and legislative transparency and accountability

The half-day engagement brought together lawmakers from the House of Representatives and the Liberian Senate, alongside key development partners and members of the Legislative Monitoring Coalition of Liberia. Representatives and Senators presence at the Meeting was, Sen. Debah M. Varpilah-Grand Cape Mount, Hon. Nyan G. Flomo, Representative of Direct # 2-Nimba County and Hon. Jacob C. Debee-Representative of Direct # 3-Grand Gedeh County. Other high-profile participants present at the meeting was Cllr. Oscar Bloh-Country Director, Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy-NIMD and Cllr. Darren Domah- Program Manager-Netherlands institute for Multiparty Democracy.

Despite the absence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, the meeting proceeded with strong participation and commitment from attending legislators and stakeholders.

A major component of the engagement was the presentation of LEMCOL’s Legislative Monitoring Methodology, which outlined the framework, scope, and indicators used to assess legislative performance in Liberia. The methodology aligns with democratic governance principles and international best practices, reinforcing LEMCOL’s role in promoting evidence-based advocacy.

Participants engaged in an interactive discussion session, providing feedback, raising questions, and contributing to refining the monitoring approach to ensure inclusivity and effectiveness.

Lawmakers present reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening oversight functions, enhancing transparency, and fostering stronger engagement with citizens and civil society actors. The meeting emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Legislature and LEMCOL in improving governance outcomes.Β
