Empower Change

Democratic Governance

IDAD is dedicated to promoting democratic principles and strengthening governance systems in Liberia. Through various projects, IDAD works to empower civil society actors and the media to act as watchdogs, enhancing transparency, accountability, and active citizen participation in governance. By developing advocacy strategies and providing training, IDAD supports civil society organizations in promoting democracy and ensuring that government actions reflect the needs and aspirations of the people.

Decentralization and Local Governance

Recognizing the importance of local governance, IDAD promotes the decentralization of authority to foster community involvement in decision-making processes. By advocating for and educating communities about decentralization policies, IDAD helps ensure that local governance structures are responsive to the unique needs of each community, promoting equitable development across Liberia.

Natural Resource Management

IDAD engages communities and stakeholders in managing Liberia’s natural resources responsibly. Through advocacy and education on land rights and environmental laws, IDAD supports sustainable development practices, aiming to create a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation. By equipping local leaders with knowledge on natural resource governance, IDAD helps communities make informed decisions that protect their resources for future generations.

Political Accountability and Governance

Political accountability is central to IDAD’s mission. Through projects that focus on civic education and legal advocacy, IDAD empowers citizens to hold their leaders accountable and participate in political processes. Initiatives like the Regional Legal Clinics support civil society organizations in advocating for policy reforms and ensure that governance structures are transparent and accountable to the people they serve.

Community Health Governance

IDAD actively promotes community health governance by enhancing awareness of health rights and governance issues, including HIV, sexual and reproductive health, and pandemic response strategies. IDAD’s programs focus on empowering community leaders and citizens to engage in health policy discussions, ensuring that health governance is participatory and responsive to the community’s needs.

Peace and Security

IDAD’s peace and security initiatives aim to foster a culture of non-violence and stability. By educating citizens about their rights and providing training on conflict resolution, IDAD helps to build trust within communities and between citizens and the government. The organization’s efforts focus on creating a peaceful society where security is maintained through dialogue, mutual understanding, and respect for the rule of law.

IDAD Democracy Fellowship

The IDAD Democracy Fellowship is a flagship program that nurtures emerging leaders in Liberia. Through workshops, site visits, and direct engagement with key stakeholders, the Fellowship provides hands-on experience in leadership, democracy, and peace-building. Fellows explore critical issues such as human rights, corruption, and structural injustices while learning to reflect on their own perspectives and advocate for change within their communities. The Fellowship equips participants to become champions of democratic values and inclusive governance.
